URBANbuild_08
URBANbuild is a year long (2 semester) design/build program at the Tulane School of Architecture. The 8th iteration of the program was a public market for micro-retailers, local neighborhood businesses who do not have the opportunities to open brick and mortar stores. The market represents a reconfigurable public space, which activated a vacant and blighted lot. By design, the market will eventually be relocated (to another under-utilized lot), and a mixed new use building project will be located on its current site. More information can be found here.
Flexible site design
The landscape design of URBANbuild 08 allowed for the 6 vendor booths to be reconfigured into different formations. By sliding along tracks, they could maintain a hard edge against the street, disperese throughout the lot, or frame smaller outdoor spaces.
